THE BOY AND THE QUIET VILLAGE

The Boy and the Quiet Village

Some places are beautiful enough to make you forget that they’re hiding a secret.

Hidden deep within a dense forest stood a quiet village where nothing ever seemed to change. The mornings were peaceful, the evenings calm, and every face carried the same gentle smile. It was the only home a lonely young man had ever known.

The villagers often reminded him that life was meant to be shared. Then one day, a beautiful young woman arrived. Her laughter slowly filled the silence that had surrounded him for years, and before long, they were married.

For the first time, he believed happiness had finally found him.

But the nights told a different story.

Strange whispers echoed through the empty rooms. Shadows moved without light. Sleep became impossible. One night, following a faint scratching sound, he froze in horror.

His wife was crawling across the walls and ceiling with impossible grace, quietly eating insects as though nothing about it was unusual.

Morning came.

She smiled, prepared breakfast, and spoke lovingly—as if the night had never happened.

He questioned his own eyes instead of questioning her.

Night after night, the impossible became familiar. Fear slowly replaced peace, until silence itself became unbearable.

Before sunrise one morning, he packed a small bag and slipped away unnoticed. He climbed aboard the first bus leaving the village, believing he had escaped whatever nightmare had consumed his life.

As the bus rolled forward, he looked back through the window.

The houses appeared abandoned.

The villagers looked strangely pale.

The entire village seemed older than time itself.

He finally allowed himself to breathe.

“Where are you going?”

A calm voice came from the empty seat beside him.

He turned.

His wife sat there quietly, smiling exactly as she always had.

In that single moment, every unanswered question found its answer.

No outsider had ever arrived.

No one had ever grown old.

And no one had ever truly left.

The village slowly disappeared into the morning mist, but its silence stayed with him forever.
